The McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday night voted to express their opposition to a proposal to allow communication companies to install wireless equipment on city-owned property and infrastructure.
Alderman Ben Newman informed the board that state lawmakers are considering the proposal that would allow companies like AT&T and Verizon to place their antennas or other wireless equipment on city-owned buildings, poles and towers without the city’s permission. The board passed a resolution to be sent to the state Capitol, expressing the board opposition to the proposal. Mayor Haley said the proposal has gained considerable support among state lawmakers.
In other business, the board passed a resolution to accept the bid of Tinsley Asphalt for work on certain streets in the city.
The board is also considering a study of safety and hazards of the sidewalks in the city. This after at least two people were reportedly injured on unsafe sidewalks.
