In a combined effort to help combat the increased number of traffic fatalities that occurred in Warren County in 2017, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Warren County Sheriff’s Department and the McMinnville Police Department, along with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office will be conducting sobriety checkpoints throughout the county on Friday, March 16th. Authorities hope the effort will help rid the roadways of impaired drivers and will decrease alcohol-related crashes.
The checkpoints will take place from 6pm until 2am and may be located on Highway 70S.
Officers will be on active patrol prior to and after the checkpoints observing for seat belt violations and any hazardous moving violations. This is one of many events planned throughout the year to combat the rise in fatal crashes. Seven of the fatal crashes last year involved some type of impairment. Eight of the fatal crashes involved unrestrained vehicle occupants. There were 37 known alcohol-related crashes in Warren County in 2017.
