Democratic and Republican voters made their choice known at the voting booth in the County Primary election held Tuesday.
Casi Powell Cantrell overpowered her two Democratic opponents to get the nomination in the race to succeed the retiring Circuit Court Clerk, Bernie Morris, in August. Cantrell received 48.8 percent of the vote. Melanie Milstead received 29.7 percent and Duane Sherrell received 21 percent. Cantrell faces Independent opposition in August.
In the race for Sheriff, Rodney Whiles picked up 60 percent of the vote to defeat Herb Rowland. Whiles will face opposition from five Independent candidates in August.
Wes Williams knocked off the longtime incumbent Register of Deeds Terry Smith. Williams received 57 percent of the vote, while Smith received 42 percent. Williams also faces Independent opposition in August.
