A motorcycle rider was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital following a weekend accident at the intersection of Shellsford Road and Highway 56.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 71 year old Bruce Wheatley of Birmingham, Alabama was making a left turn from Shellsford Road on to Highway 56 when he pulled into the path of a pickup truck, driven by 19 year old Clint Grissom, which was northbound.
The impact knocked Wheatley onto a nearly lawn. Authorities say Wheatley was with two other riders on their way to a motorcycle rally in Dunlap.
Grissom was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
