The Mt. Leo Church congregation will be getting a helping hand from the City after a root problem in the City’s sewer system caused sewage to flood the church’s basement.
When it was learned that the problem was with the City’s sewer system and not the church’s, the city solicited the services of Serv-Pro to begin cleaning up the mess. It was later learned from the insurance adjuster from the Tennessee Municipal League that the city was not liable for the damages because the problem was unknown to the city at the time. However, City Attorney Tim Pirtle recommended that the city reimburse the $17,300 bill the church received from Serv-Pro, since it was the city that solicited their services. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday night voted to reimburse the church the amount of the bill.
In other business, the board approved second and final reading of an ordinance to change the requirements for candidates applying for the position of full-time City Administrator. The new requirements call for a college degree or equivalent experience or training.
