Campus Fire Safety Month

Governor Bill Haslam has declared September 2018 as Campus Fire Safe Month to help raise awareness of fire hazards and to promote fire safety for college students who live both on and off campus. According to TN.gov, the National Fire Protection Association reported that fire departments responded to an average of 4,100 structure fires in dorms, fraternities, sororities, and other related properties from 2011 through 2015. To help students protect themselves from the dangers of fire, the association is advising students to find a dorm or apartment in a fully sprinkled building; make sure you can hear the alarm from your room; assure the smoke alarm works; never disable a smoke alarm; and know the escape route.
