Former Vice Mayor Ben Newman Tuesday night took the oath of office as Mayor and McMinnville as he begins his two-year term. He was sworn-in just prior to the start of the meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Chosen as Vice Mayor was Aldermen Ryle Chastain.
In other business, the board passed an ordinance to appropriate funds to certain non-profit organizations in the amount of $318,800.
The board also passed a measure to accept a bid from Stowers Caterpillar for a mini-excavator for the Water and Sewer Department. The price was $28,018.
The board also amended the budget ordinance to add $75,000 to the Tourism Development Board.
At the next meeting on September 25th, the board plans to discuss the vacant alderman position.
