City officials say individuals and businesses trying to unload kayaks and canoes into the river at Pepper Branch Park are often finding the unloading areas blocked by parked vehicles. Officials say this causes a problem for those who want to take advantage of water recreation. During Tuesday night’s meeting of the McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Alderman Ben Newman suggested that signs be placed at the park indicating the proper parking areas and also warning not to block the put-in areas for watercraft. He also suggested a $50 fine be established for anyone in violation. The board is expected to vote on an ordinance to that effect at the next meeting.
In other business, the board approved an ordinance to amend the municipal code that will show an increase to five percent in the hotel motel tax. The board also passed a measure to direct all money collected from the hotel motel tax to go to the Tourism Development Board.
The board passed a resolution to name the walking trails connecting Hobbs Park and Rocket Park the Bigbee River Trail in honor of Dr. Wallace Bigbee Sr.
