A 2-vehicle crash involving a White County ambulance claimed the life of the patient being transported and sent a paramedic to the hospital.
The crash happened at around 4pm Thursday at the intersection of Sparta Highway and Bone Cave Road near Rock Island.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 2014 Dodge Caravan, driven by 63 year old Carol M. Simpson of Bone Cave was crossing the intersection on Bone Cave Road and pulled into the path of a White County ambulance which was on an emergency run, driven by 22 year old Ethan Dweese of Pikeville. The two vehicles hit at the intersection and the ambulance went out of control and flipped over, coming to rest on its top.
The patient being transported was taken by a Warren County ambulance to River Park Hospital, where the patient was pronounced dead. The name of the patient was not released by officers. An EMT who was traveling in the back of the ambulance with the patient, was injured and was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. His name also was not released.
Ethan Dweese, the ambulance driver, was treated for minor injuries and released from River Park. Ms. Simpson was not injured. The THP said Ms. Simpson will face felony charges, including vehicular homicide.
