The Internal Revenue Service has been issuing strong warnings recently to guard against aggressive phone scams that target people of all ages. The scammers continue to make the calls because they’re making money.
Over the last few weeks, many calls were made to people who described what they said were frightening phone calls and voice mail messages from someone claiming to be from the IRS.
The Better Business Bureau says lots of people call the bureau about the scary scam calls.
The bureau says the IRS will never arrest you. They don’t have the authority to arrest you. The scammers are just trying to create urgency and fear.
If the real IRS, or a local court officer needs to contact you, they’ll do it by mail first. Remember, no one from the government will demand personal information over the phone; they likely already have it.
