Gas Prices

Gas prices in the southeastern U.S. are declining as Americans prepare for the final holiday of the summer travel season. Declining demand and rising supplies have allowed prices at the pump to steadily slip lower.
AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said pump prices are 40 to 50 cents higher than a year ago, but that spread will be erased by Labor Day. Jenkins said holiday travelers will find pump prices at around the same level as last year. Last year gas prices spiked right before Labor Day after Hurricane Harvey hit the gulf coast.
Gas prices in Tennessee declined 2 cents last week. The state average declined for the 23rd consecutive day on Sunday, for a total discount of 6 cents during that time. Sunday’s state average of $2.59 is 44 cents more than this time last year. Tennessee gas prices currently sit at just 4 cents above last year’s Labor Day averages. The national average is $2.83.
